Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting

The 12th Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of the Kottayam District was held at the Seminar Hall of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kumarakom on 12th February 2020 at 10.30 am. Dr. Jiju P Alex, Director of Extension, Kerala Agricultural University presided over the meeting. Dr. D.V. Srinivasa Reddy, ATARI, Bangaluru, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, delivered the keynote address. District Panchayat Member Shri Jayesh Mohan, Heads of various Development Departments in Kottayam District, Principal Agricultural Officer, District Veterinary Officer, Kottayam, representatives from Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kayamkulam, CIFT, Kochi and ATMA, Kottayam, Associate Director of Research, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Kumarakom, National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme Coordinator, Lead Bank Manager, SBI, Assistant Director, Soil Survey, Soil Conservation, Haritha Keralam Mission Coordinator, Manager, VFPCK, Agricultural Engineers, RARS, Kumarakom, representatives of Akashvani, Doordarshan, representative of Farm Information Bureau, Heads of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Alappuzha Districts, representatives of Fisheries Department and selected Farmers of the District, participated in the discussion. Dr. Jiju P Alex, Director, Agricultural Extension, said that the Krishi Vigyan Kendra should efficiently undertake activities in order to bring in new technologies to more farmers, co-ordinate the activities of various departments and increase the farmers’ income. There was a general suggestion that farmers and agricultural workers should be educated on careful handling of pesticides and other agricultural chemicals. Suggestions also came up about the necessity to develop agricultural technologies and varieties suitable to mitigate climate change. Activities of various departments of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra were presented in the meeting. The meeting also outlined action plan for the next financial year. Dr D.V. Srinivasa Reddy said that steps should be taken to increase the activities of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra to reach more farmers in the district.
